Hello San Diego!

There are three film festivals taking place in the San Diego area. The 9th Annual Borrego Springs Film Festival started yesterday and will continue until Monday. The 3-day Justice Film Festival also began yesterday, and they will be screening films today and Saturday. And today and tomorrow, the 11th San Diego Arab Film Festival will screen films at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.

Today (Friday) and tomorrow, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will perform at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla.

Tonight, Hands of Peace will be presenting an online theatrical performance of Maryam - A Woman of Bethlehem. A panel discussion will follow.

Saturday, at Veteran's Park in Imperial Beach, Alana Quintana Albertson will talk about her new book, Ramón and Julieta. The USD Association of Chicanx Activists and the Women's Commons will celebrate Mujeres de la Revolucíon with free food, entertainment and panelists. Saturday night begins a series of four performances of the Charles Gounod's opera Roméo et Juliette at the Civic Theatre. The remaining performances will take place on Tuesday, next Friday, and next Sunday.

Sunday, there will be a Persian Nowroz Festival at Ruocco Park. The House of Iran will also hold a Nowroz Celebration at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. Also at Balboa Park, the #StandWithUkraine — National Day of Action Rally will take place to show support for the people of Ukraine. Bodhi Tree Concerts with the Vision Center for Spiritual Living will present a Concert for Peace in Solidarity with Ukraine. Mexican-American pop star Ángela Aguilar will perform at SDSU's Open Air Theatre.

Tuesday, the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice will present an online talk with John Hewko, General Secretary and CEO of Rotary International, on The Role Everyday Individuals Can Play in Addressing the Ukraine Crisis. At the Jolla Methodist Church, the Mission Bay High School Mambo Orchestra will perform Latin American jazz compositions. The Angelika Film Center & Cafe will present a filmed version of Verdi's Rigoletto performed by the Royal Opera.

On Wednesday at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center renowned Chinese pipa player, Wu Man, will perform traditional Chinese folk songs accompanied by musicians from the San Diego Symphony . Next Thursday, Gabriela Aparicio will perform at the Water Bar. Warwick's will host an online talk with Kate Quinn who will discuss her new book, The Diamond Eye. At the Escondido Public Library, author Marco E. López Quezada will discuss his memoir My March With César in celebration of César Chavez Day. The San Diego Italian Film Festival will offer an online screening of the coming-of-age drama Nevia. The North Coast Repertory Theatre will begin performances of An Iliad.

Next Saturday and Sunday the annual International Dance Association Festival will take place in Balboa Park.

Also next Saturday, the San Diego Diplomacy Council will hold its On the Road Again Fundraiser at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Liberty Station.

Next Sunday, Adventures by the Book will host a Ukrainian Fundraising Luncheon at the Pushkin Restaurant. At the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, the Irish dance troupe Velocity will perform. And at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, Home Within will be a multi-media presentation produced by the Silkroad Ensemble featuring Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and Syrian Armenian visual artist Kevork Moura.

Local theatrical offerings include The Great Khan at the Lyceum Theatre and Murder on the Orient Express at the Coronado Playhouse. Be sure to check out Ongoing and Extended Events for art and museum exhibitions as well as regular gigs by local musicians.
